Recently, I saw Ella May Garrett do the Travel Tag on her blog and I wanted to do it myself. I love travelling, and have visited many places over the years, both at home in New Zealand and abroad. I am excited to share my experiences and hope with you.
What is your favourite place that you have ever visited?
I love Switzerland. My favourite place would have to be the town Montreux in the French region, famous for its food and music. I had the pleasure of visiting there for a week in 2013 and fell in love with the beauty of the area, which is so similar to my home country. My favourite part would have to be the old medieval castle, which ignited the fantasies I had of knights and queens that I held as a child and reminded me of my more recent loves of the TV shows Merlin and Reign.
If you could visit anywhere tomorrow, where would you go?
This is an extremely difficult one for me, but I would have to say Germany. I have a good friend there I would love to visit and I have always been interested in the country itself. I actually did look at doing an exchange there at one point, however I would prefer to go to a French speaking area as I am more interested in that language.
City holiday or beach holiday?
If I was after a proper holiday, with relaxation and the aim of doing nothing for an entire week, I would much rather prefer a beach holiday. Not anywhere in New Zealand though, its far too cold. The Pacific Islands most likely, I think if I was to travel anywhere further I would rather sightsee and get to know the country a bit. But if I just wanted a getaway with my boyfriend, I would prefer the beach.
My Top Three Holiday Essentials are?
- Books-either electronic (for overseas travel) or my beloved paperback. This is the prime method of relaxation for me.
- Sunscreen-I have rather pale skin so this is definitely an essential
- Good walking sandals, I have a brown leather pair which I love and have taken me all around Spain with no blisters.
What is your favourite thing about going on holiday?
Exploring new places, learning new languages and experiencing new cultures. If I am going somewhere new, I want to learn as much as I can about the place. My passion is culture and history, which is why I took papers in anthropology and history at university. I find them so fascinating and I love creating such incredible memories.
Would you rather go on holiday with family or friends?
Friends! I absolutely despise family holidays, especially as holidays with my family are generally lengthily boat trips on the small boat my dad made himself. Try being crammed in a small cabin with five other people for a month and see how well you do! I have had several trips with friends abroad and I have absolutely loved them! So much more enjoyable, and unlike the family ones, I have always actually wanted to go in the first place.
What is the most adventurous dish you have ever tried?
As a vegetarian, this severely limits the types of “adventurous dishes” that I am able to try. I would go with strawberry gazpacho which I tried in a city in Spain. Contrary to popular belief, it did not actually taste like
strawberries! I did actually quite like it though, after getting over the initial disappointment and uneasiness at eating cold soup.
I am yet to make any friends in the blogging community (although I would desperately love to) so I will leave this as an open tag if you are wishing to try it yourself.
Let me know if you are interested in hearing any more of my travel stories as this is an area I would love to explore-I have had many experiences travelling which I would love to share with you, as well as sound knowledge of my own country, New Zealand, gained from many family holidays.
Let me know
Cheers Alura xx
